{remember} setting aside my to do's to watch Nemo with the boys and go to bed early. I need to do this more often. Here's what I know: my grandmother's biggest regret was having spent too much time cleaning her house and not enough time with her children (she told me this herself); my mom spent too much time cleaning her house; once my house gets to a clean state, it's time to start cleaning it all over again; housework doesn't ever go away or end. So really, for my kids' sake and my own sanity and well-being, I need to make a conscious effort to stop what I am doing and spend some chunk of time with my boys everyday.
{remember} Logan and Maddox spending some much needed quality time together: playing, talking, reading, and bonding--a rare and treasured memory for me and them.
{remember} a productive day of crafting and organizing, some with the boys (painting, gluing, tearing down the word wall to make room for display rods, pretending with tools), some without (them Rock Banding, watching tv, and driving garbage trucks around the house picking up garbage--if I had know this woud keep them so engaged I would have dumped all the trash bins onto the floor of every room!).
Created this page in my art journal:
inspired by the art in this cute book from the library:
{remember} Camden going to school with a tiny pin-prick of a hole in his blue jeans and coming home with a gaping seam-to-seam hole across the entire knee exclaiming, "Can you make me a Gameboy case out of these?!" I have created a monster!
{remember} getting the absolute worst, most terrifying news a parent could ever get about their child. One of the children at my church just had a brain tumor removed. The diagnosis was sudden and the surgery swift. Please pray for this precious girl and her wonderful family.
{remember} a long day with Perry at work broken up with a trip to two craft stores (sans kiddos) and dinner at my Mom & Dad's--again they save the day (if I gave them $1 every time they've saved me, they'd be rolling in it, not a worry in the world as they enter the retirement years--wish I could repay you!)
{remember} Maddox having a date with Auntie Sherri to DD and Target, where he got a donut and the Yo Gabba Gabba guitar he was asking for for Christmas. I just couldn't bring myself to get this crazy annoying toy for him. Afterall, he already has 2 guitars (not counting Logan's and the Rock Band one--I mean, really, how many guitars can one household have?!). But Auntie can get it for him, she doesn't have to listen to "think happy thoughts, happy thoughts, that's whatchew gotta do" and "don't be afraid, don't be afraid, don't be afraid, it's ok" and "run, run, run, it's fun, fun, fun; run, run, run, it's fun, fun, fun" over and over and over again. What is it with these kids shows and repeating everything three times--ever notice that? Anyway, thanks Auntie, you made Maddox's day (and possibly his whole year). I don't know what was worse: hearing M ask for the guitar nearly everyday, or listening to the crazy annoying songs now that we have it.
{remember} running errands with Maddox and having the realization that I am going to so miss our time alone, especially when he says things like: "Just you and me, I love you!"
{remember} working away in my stUdio on these and then finding Camden kneeling on the floor crying with a belly ache at 10 pm. He threw up 18 seconds later (luckily in the toilet), and then 15 minutes after that, and 15 minutes after that, and 15 minutes. . .
{remember} an almost entire day just for me: a little working, a little blogging, a little shopping, a little picking up the house, a little bit of time just for ME! Thanks Mom & Dad for taking the boys bowling and to lunch.
. . . listening to my favorite tunes from the 80's and early 90's via project playlist: Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam, Sophie B Hawkins, Moving Pictures, Tori Amos (I may have to post this new list here so you can reminisce, too) . . .watching Logan curled in a ball sleeping on the rocking chair under his baby quilt. . . .wanting this book filled with adorable art. . . .remembering my Keith Haring Swatch watch I had in the 80's (it's selling for over $800!) . . .trying to blink away the dryness of my contacts.
{remember} watching the boys sledding with Perry, cooking dinner with my sister, the boys having a blast sledding and playing in the basement with their cousins, and singing karaoke-style in the kitchen with my sister while the guys watched football--a perfect Sunday.
{remember} girls' night with my mom, sisters, and nieces pigging out on pizza, popcorn, chocolate and watching Mama Mia (and me belting out Dancing Queen, much to everyone's dismay)--fun memories!
{remember} Camden coming home from school with a note for me that read "To Mommy, Will you read with me when I get home from school today? Love, Camden" Love this little guy!
{remember} taking the boys out to eat after swim class, and the ball they had playing video games while waiting for their dinner (thank goodness I actually had some cash in my wallet!).
{remember} Maddox telling me to carry him because he only has one leg. When I ask him, "What's this?" and point to his leg he replies, "That's one leg." When I point to the other one and ask him what that is, again "That's one leg." When I ask him what one leg and one leg makes, he squeezes the two legs together, and looking down says, "One leg." This boy cracks me up!!
{remember} a hang at home kind of day, making a ham dinner (should do the Sunday dinner thing on a regular basis), shopping without my credit card--it's a lot cheaper!
{remember} listening to the boys rock it out to Rock Band this morning. This was a warm-up for Logan's first jam session with his buds who have formed the band "Kings R" (the R, of course, is for "Rock"). So freaking cute!
And the shot they insisted I take to put on my blog:
{remember} going to Pilates for the first time in months, joining Face Book (bout time!), and having great laughs with my sister until late at night on the phone {Is that a bowl of ice cream stuck to my body pillow? Perfect for a page entitled, Who the %$@# did this?} All-in-all a good day. Oh yeah, and a no cook night--yippee!
{remember} scrapbooking with the girls and an uninvited guest who should have been downstairs eating dinner and watching tv or something--it's girls only!
{remember} checking this awesome book out of the library with Maddox and then using it to inspire some art paintings with M and C after lunch--fun times.
A conversation with Maddox while washing dishes together: Hugs me and says: This is my friend Mommy. See, I'm gonna say it. [closes his lips tightly and looks like he's thinking really hard] Me: what did you just do? Him: I said it; didn't you hear it? Me: Are you saying it in your head? Him: Yeah, not in my mouth.
{remember} sacred one-on-one time with M while the boys go to a Sharks game with P. He wrapped his little arms around my neck while we were eating dinner together, squeezed hard and said "I'm having so much fun with you." He's no dummy--he'll never go to a Sharks game, not when he can have me all to himself!
